Abstract
In the present study the author examines the evolution of the Italian Welfare State. In the context of the 2008 global economic crisis some of the sectors framing the welfare state in Italy have gradually turned into vulnerable points for the system as a whole, thus forcing the Italian state to borrow money from the international markets. The overall effect is a growing indebtedness and an increased public debt.
