Abstract
Practices of document processing in music collections of Brazilian orchestras differ from those in other music archives and lack a common theoretical basis. Library and archival sciences schools do not treat the subject with the necessary depth that could lead to the establishment of a minimum set of common procedures, and that makes difficult the transit of data and people, as well as information retrieval. Efforts in research and systematizing should be undertaken in order to create a common basis for the preparation and development of repertory collections.
