Abstract
Este artigo discute o conceito de cultura em Linguística Sistêmico-Funcional (LSF), partindo do pressuposto de que este é um conceito-chave para a compreensão da forma como ela se propôs a abordar a linguagem. Para isso, a obra que traz seus princípios epistemológicos, Language as Social Semiotic, publicada em 1978 por M.A.K. Halliday, é relida em busca de sua raiz Antropológica. Foram listados e analisados os enunciados em que ocorreram palavras construídas com o radical cultur-. O trabalho indicou que a Antropologia ainda subjaz à LSF, mas que esta foi sendo reorientada sociologicamente, trazendo implicações teóricas e metodológicas.
