Abstract
Family life cycle is a long process from marriage to birth, education of children,their having a profession, leaving home and death of one of spouses.In thisprocess, life period of families affects demands and needs of familiesand createsdifferences in spending and borrowing patterns of them. Thisstudy aims todetermine borrowing forms, borrowing reasons, borrowing expense types, placesto borrow and borrowing patterns of families within different life cycles. Thestudy was conducted on N=440 families living in different districts of Ankara,capital of Turkey. Thestudy group was selected with random sampling method.The research data were collected by face-to-face interviews withpeople who wereresponsible for income management in family based on the questionnaire form.SPSS 15.0 package program was used to assess the data. According to theresearch results, more than half of the families (73.4%) borrow; they borrow dueto unconscious credit carduse (42.7%), the first place to borrow is financialinstitutions (64.7%) (p lower than 0.01; p lower than 0.05).It was found that in all of the three familylife cycles, borrowing rates in the expenses of food, health, education, durableconsumer goods, cultural and entertainment differ by life cycles.
