Abstract
In order to analyze the influence of the Mexican student movement of 1968 in medical education at the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico (UAEM) during the 1970s, a horizon of understanding to rebuild the curriculum due at that time. At the starting point, 60-year history of medical education are synthesized in four periods: overture, andante, larghissimo, stretto; and seven curricula. During the analysis process, the 1971 curriculum was characterized by strengthening the Flexner model developed as follows: a four-year school course, a one-year rotating undergraduate internship and a one-year of social service learning. The curriculum structure gathered the biomedical sciences in the first two years, then clinical teaching was develop. Social content subjects were introduced by the influence of the Department of Public Health. In conclusion, the influence of the 1968 student movement in higher education in Mexico can be highlighted since, through a University-Society relationship, the Mexican medical education inherited the 68 democratic demands. Therefore, the medical education by the UAEM during the period from 1970 to 1980 reflects the influence of the 1968 student movement. How to reference this article Rillo, A. G. (2016).
