Abstract
In 1808, the political crisisthat it forced the arrival of thePortuguese Cut to Rio de Janeiro, itunchained, here, importanttransformations, to begin for theimmediate opening of the ports tothe nations friends, decision that itfavored the increase of thecommercial transactions and a largercultural exchange. Besides, during thePortuguese monarch’s stay, schools,museums and libraries were created;she proceeded to the urbanization ofthe capital and, very important, ithad begin to the circulation of thenational press. Amid thecommemorations of the bicentennialof the arrival of the Royal family toBrazil, this article intends to elucidatesome of the a lot of changeshappened in the everyday of thecapital of the Luso-Brazilian Empire,attempting, especially, for certaindimensions of the inhabitants’ life.
