Abstract
O presente artigo pretende abordar a questão da moda como instrumento de distinção e imitação na sociedade contemporânea. Apresenta de uma maneira breve como se constroem suas manifestações e seus valores distintivos entre os indivíduos, além da construção dos gostos de acordo com as diferentes posições que o indivíduo ocupa no espaço social. A moda está intimamente ligada às produções sociais geradoras de distinção que classificam as classes sociais de acordo com o seu conjunto de gostos individuais e o dualismo aparentemente conflitante manifesta-se na arte do diálogo entre o anseio de diferenciar-se e a necessidade de imitar.
