Abstract
RESUMEN: Todo trabajo histórico sobre la Antigüedad ha de tener en cuenta, en primer lugar, las fuentes literarias escritas que sobre el tema objeto de estudio nos han transmitido los autores grecolatinos. Sin embargo, dado el carácter fragmentario, reducido y corrupto de los textos antiguos y de la manipulación y tergiversación sufrida por los mismos no sólo en su origen, sino también en su transmisión posterior a través del mundo mediefal, sus datos no pueden ser considerados sin un adecuada crítica «externa», «interna » y finalmente «interpretativa», indivual y colectiva de todos los textos conservados. Este es, sin duda, el principal problema de la Historia Antigua de Cantabria, pues, hasta ahora la mayoría de los autores modernos que se han ocupado del tema se han limitado a realizar una sesgada interpretación de los textos clásicos, en ocasiones incluso usando de forma escasa y parcial los datos arqueológicos, epigráficos y numismáticos, prescindiendo de las críticas «externas» e «interna» previas en cualquier trabajo de este tipo.
