Abstract
Através dos testes de progênies realizados para o melhoramento da população de milho IAC-1 opaco-2 obtiveram-se estimativas de uma série de parâmetros genéticos. As estimativas obtidas para variância entre progênies de meios-irmãos, coeficiente de variação genética e variância genética aditiva permitem concluir que a população deve continuar reagindo favoravelmente à seleção. As estimativas do progresso esperado na seleção foram bastante próximas do progresso real calculado, mostrando grande eficiência da metodologia empregada. As estimativas de parâmetros genéticos no IAC-1 opaco-2 mostraram ser de grande valia para a apreciação do processo de seleção nessa população permitindo, inclusive, predições seguras a respeito do progresso genético a ser obtido.
Progeny tests used for the improvement of IAC-1 opaque-2 maize population led to estimates of a series of genetic parameters. Estimates obtained for variance among half-sib progenies, coefficient of genetic variance and aditive genetic variance permit to come to a conclusion that population will continue reacting favorably to selection. The estimates of expected progress in selection were quite proximate with the observed progress showing great efficiency in the methodology. Estimates of these genetic parameters of IAC-1 opaque-2 showed to be of great value in the study of selection in this population permiting reliable prediction of the genetic progress.
