Abstract
Una verdadera industria de la seguridad privada se ha constituido en la Argentina durante las últimas décadas. Este proceso ha incluido la conformación de una nueva categoría socio-profesional - los agentes de seguridad privada, conocidos como "vigiladores" - que se encargan de brindar los servicios de protección y vigilancia que ofrecen las empresas para las cuales trabajan. En el presente artículo, analizamos las características sociales de estos trabajadores y de los puestos de trabajo que ocupan. Por otro lado, describimos los procesos de selección por medio de los cuales estos individuos son reclutados y la manera en que acceden a esta ocupación.
A private security industry has been established in Argentina during the last decades. This process has included the creation of a new socio-professional category - private security agents, known as "vigiladores" - who are responsible for providing protection and surveillance services. In this paper, we analyze the social characteristics of these workers and the jobs they perform. We also describe the selection process through which these individuals are recruited and how they access this occupation.
