Abstract
Este ensayo analiza la producción académica de Jesús Antonio Bejarano en el campo de la historia económica colombiana. Señala que sus trabajos iniciales se fundaron en teóricos marxistas. Con el tiempo, el uso explícito de categorías marxistas se atenuó, aunque sus conceptualizaciones preservaban el análisis de clase e intentaban mantener una visión holística de los temas que le preocupaban. Economista de formación, Bejarano se acercó a la historia para aclarar algunos problemas del desarrollo económico colombiano. Su obra fue pionera en varios campos; y como cualquier obra pionera tuvo aciertos y desaciertos. Varios trabajos monográficos recientes cuestionan algunas generalizaciones en las que incurrieron algunos trabajos de Bejarano y de sus compañeros de generación.
<p>This essay discusses Jesús Antonio Bejarano's contribution to Colombian economic history, and shows that his early work was heavily influenced by Marxism. In later years, Bejarano's use of Marxist categories was subtler than in his early writings. Nevertheless, his studies remained informed by class analysis and a holistic approach. An economist by training, Bejarano initially confronted history in order to understand Colombia 's economic development. He blazed trails in many fields, but like any other pioneer he sometimes went astray. Recent monographs have questioned some of the assumptions shared by contribution v. XVIII, n. Bejarano and other scholars in his generation.</p>
