Abstract
In this study, some aspects of the theory of classification will be analyzed. Initially, the intention is to see what classification is, along with its existing types. Next, the evolution of the theories and systems of classification will be studied, identifying the importance of the theory of faceted classification. The elements that comprise the theory are revised and later particularized for a specific situation: the quantitative thematic mapping of scientific disciplines.
