Abstract
Perubahan medan gravitasi frekuensi rendah yang timbul sebelum terjadinya gempabumi kuat dapat dideteksi dengan alat Atropatena. Prinsip kerja Atropatena mirip dengan Torsion Balance pada Eksperimen Cavendish. Detektor Atropatena mencatat secara simultan dan kontinu variasi medan gravitasi dalam tiga komponen, yaitu satu komponen vertikal (Z) dan dua komponen horizontal (X dan Y). Pada bulan AgustuS 2009, stasiun Atropatena-ID telah dipasang di Yogyakarta. Stasiun Atropatena bekerja dalam bentuk jaringan, di bawah koordinasi GNFE (Global Network for the Forecasting of Earthquakes) yang berpusat di Istanbul, Turki. Pada saat ini di seluruh dunia terdapat 5 stasiun Atropatena, yaitu di Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Turki, Indonesia, dan Ukraina. Sampai dengan saat ini, jaringan stasiun Atropatena telah berhasil memprediksi lebih dari 50% gempabumi kuat di seluruh dunia, termasuk gempabumi Jepang (8,9 SR) yang terjadi pada tanggal 11 Maret 2011.
The low frequency three-dimensional changes of gravitational field before strong earthquakes are detected by a device called Atropatena. Atropatena uses the physical principle of Cavendish Torsion Balance. Detector Atropatena simultaneously registered time variations of gravitational field in two mutually perpendicular directions (horizontal components, X and Y) and variations of gravity Dg (vertical component, Z). The atropatena-ID has been installed in Yogyakarta since August 2009. Atropatena works under the world wide station network which are coordinated by GNFE (Global Network for the Forecasting of Earthquakes), based in Istanbul, Turkey. Five stations of Atropatena are now established in Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Turkey, Indonesia, and Ukraine. Up to now, Atropatena station network has successfully predicted more than 50% of strong earthquakes around the world, including Japan earthquake (8.9 magnitude) that occurred on March 11, 2011.
