Abstract
Quando si apre The Stone Gods la fuga sembra l’unica alternativa possibile per sopravvivere a un pianeta che sta per scomparire. Questa fuga si rivelerà però inutile, perché la nuova meta, la nuova speranza, si scoprirà essere semplicemente il nostro presente, il Pianeta Terra, che alla fine del romanzo è già tanto malridotto da lasciare, ancora una volta, la fuga come unica alternativa. Nel romanzo della Winterson la fuga è quindi un concetto ampiamente indagato, sotto diverse forme: come fuga dalla società, dalla ‘normalità’ socialmente accettata, dalle gabbie culturali e, non ultimo, da un pianeta in estinzione.
