LIT. aukà ‘OPFER’ - AUS *au̯ikā́ ‘SCHAF’
Zusammenfassung
Das litauische aukà ‘Opfer’ ist keine Neubildung von Simonas Daukantas; das hat schon Jonas Palionis bewiesen (siehe Ztschr. für Slawistik, 34 (2), 210ff.). Im vorliegenden Beitrag wird dieses Wort zurückgeführt auf altlit. *au̯ikā́ ‘Schaf’ (vgl. sanskr. avikā́ ‘Schaf’, altslaw. ovьca < *ou̯ikā) oder auf seinen späteren Kontinuanten *avikà (vgl. mdal. avikíena ‘Hammelfleisch’). Das offensichtlich von alters her in der Bedeutung des Opfers gebrauchte *au̯ikā́ / *avikà hat dengleichen Vokalschwund -i- → Ø erfahren, wie ožkà ‘Ziege’ ← *āžikā́; dieser Schwund hat die heterosyllabische Verbindung [a]-[u̯] oder [a]-[v] natürlich durch den Diphthong [au] ersetzt (vgl. gãvo ‘bekam’: gáuti ‘bekommen’, tavè ‘dich’: táu ‘dir’) und die ehemalige Ableitung aukà stark vom Stammwort avis entfernt.
