Abstract
O artigo apresenta os resultados de uma avaliação diagnóstica sobre alguns conceitos fundamentais necessários para um módulo de ensino de números irracionais nas últimas séries do Ensino Fundamental, a saber: Números Racionais, Área do Retângulo e o Teorema de Pitágoras. Os resultados mostram que a maioria dos alunos pesquisados na 8ª série de uma escola pública de Natal, RN, não dominavam as questões da avaliação.
