Abstract
Dentro del marco de aplicaciones constructivas en madera se inscriben tres variables estructurales. Un primer grupo comprende las "estructuras libres", para requerimientos de grandes luces, generalmente usadas en recintos públicos destinados al deporte, industria o comercio. En segundo término se agrupan todos aquellos sistemas en que la función estructural se resuelve con "paneles a base de madera".
Estos sistemas se emplean preferentemente en viviendas prefabricadas y edificios de pequeña envergadura. Finalmente, consideramos las construcciones con "esqueleto en madera", cuyo campo de aplicación principal está en las edificaciones de mediana extensión: escuelas, centros comunitarios, pequeñas industrias o bloques habitacionales.
