Abstract
Grande parte do
Abstract
This paper aims at examining the contribution of microcredit on the development of businesses, as well as identifying
the most relevant factors on the performance of entrepreneurs. For that matter, a sample of eighty-eight entrepreneurs granted with microcredit from BANCRI (an institution from Santa Catarina state) has been used. In general, the microcredit received has proved to have had a positive impact on the businesses, for 100% of them have affirmed noticing sales increase after it. A great part of the credit received is devised at financing working capital for those companies.
The relation between company performance (based on sales turnover change between 2000 and 2002) and a series of variables both metric and non-metric has shown very weak. From all the variables analyzed, only the fact of the company site being in the same location of the residence of the entrepreneur has proved to influence the performance of that company.
