Abstract
Los trabajos que se reúnen bajo este epígrafe son una expresión de la tendencia historiográfica que cuestiona las viejas tesis sobre la supuesta pérdida de peso político de lo religioso durante la implantación de los regímenes liberales. Los artículos se centran en las experiencias y problemas acaecidos en la Europa católica, Francia, Italia y España, en sus intentos por refundar y legitimar los tronos tras el ciclo revolucionario. Se interesan por el “poder sagrado” de las nuevas monarquías como un elemento inherente al “poder terrenal” estudiado en su día por Michael Burleigh. Pero no se trata ya de la mera relación entre el Altar y el Trono, sino de los usos religiosos de los dispositivos y aparatos reales para legitimarse y consolidarse.
