Abstract
The article attempts to typologize modern regional mass media based on their issue-related characteristics. It is important to define the notions of “mass media typology” and “classification of the media” as being quite close to each other. Goal. The article is devoted to the study of the peculiarities of regional mass media typological division. A study was made of the functioning features of the Tambov region mass media and their thematic characteristics with the aim of presenting a typological division of regional mass media based on the specifics of the functioning of the Tambov region mass media as well as their thematic and other key characteristics. Method or methodology of the work. While developing the topic, the following methods were applied: – content analysis, used in the analysis of the content of electronic and print media of the Tambov region; – continuous sampling, which has found application in the selection of materials from the mass media in order to clarify the priority topics and issues; – comparative analysis, used when comparing the typological characteristics of printed and electronic media. Results. The author presents a justified typological division of modern regional printed and electronic mass media based on the experience of mass media functioning in Tambov Oblast. Scope of application of the results. The results of the research can be applied by journalism theorists in the organization of research activities, as well as in the teaching of such academic courses as Typology of the media, Theory and practice of media communications and others.
