Abstract
We made a prospective study of malnourished patients who were admitted to the ICU of "Dr. Ángel Arturo Aballí" Teaching Pediatric Hospital from January 1994 to July 1997. Our objective was to determine those clinical-hormonal alterations that act as death-linked risk factors. Once the statistical one-variant/multivariant methods of logistic regression were used to find out the mortality-linked variables, the most significant ones were the following: polypnea (p= 0,00000, RR= 180); altered conciousness (p= 0,00000, RR= 55), no peripheral pulses (p= 0,00001, RR= 29), hypoglycemia (p= 0,00015, RR= 11,2); hypopotasemia (p= 0,00015, RR= 11,2), catheter (p= 00021, RR= 12,5), hypoalbuminemia (p= 0,02, RR= 4,2), leucocytosis (p= 0,03, RR= 4) and decreased hemoglobin (p= 0,33, RR= 3,7).
