Neste artigo se faz uma reflexão sobre o papel da integração, na era da globalização, para os países latino-americanos, ressaltando quais as características específicas desses processos integracionistas, centrando a atenção nos casos do Mercosul e da Alca. Seu intuito é entender como a integração, para além de seu papel como possível promotora do desenvolvimento sustentável ou de inserção internacional, faz parte de um processo de mudança no próprio Estado.
This article is a reflection on the importance of the integration for the Latin American countries in the globalized age, standing out those specific characteristics of the integrational processes, calling the attention to the cases of the Mercosul and the FTAA. Its intention is to understand the integration beyond its function as a possible promoter of a sustainable development or the international insertion, being part of a process of change in the State itself.
