Abstract

The present work describes the production of a stand of Eucalyptus grandis Hill ex Maiden, which was submitted to 4 levels of thinning realized 96 months and repeated 124 months after planting and regulated as a  function of basal area of the non-thinned control (100 %). Treatments with a maintenance of 60 %, 50 % and 40 % of the control basal area were conducted. The experiment was installed with a randomized block design with two replicates of 400 m2 plots. Relative spacing index (S%) was calculated using regression analysis, which showed similar slope coefficients for the three treatmants, creating parallels. On the other hand intercept coefficient decreased with thinning intensity. Intercept variation was described by regression with basal area after thinning as the independent variable. For determination of relative spacing index the following general equation was defined: S%=-10,9554+ 0,09561 Gmant – 0,001951 Gmant2 + 1,16672 h100.
