Abstract
O texto trata da relação de influências recíprocas entre esporte e cidade, focalizando a cidade de Vitória/ES e cinco modalidades fomentadas pela Lei Municipal de Incentivo ao Esporte de Alto Rendimento (Lei n° 5892). O objetivo é identificar a existência ou não de relações de proximidade entre um modelo de vida esportiva e o cotidiano da cidade, isto é, relações de auxílios sociais, políticos e econômicos entre Vitória e as modalidades fomentadas. Constatou-se uma relação frágil entre o esporte de alto rendimento e a cidade de Vitória, devido à carência em eficácia e efetividade social de tais políticas.
