Abstract
Este artigo trata das influências da encíclica Pacem in Terris por sobre a esquerda católica brasileira até o ano de 1964. Esperamos demonstrar que esses católicos não construíram uma compreensão religiosa e política da realidade distanciada de Roma. Pelo contrário, o papado de João XXIII foi pródigo em argumentos para a sua teologia política. Utilizamos o jornal Brasil, Urgente como fonte primária da pesquisa que resultou neste artigo. O tema paz na terra reveste-se de particular interesse por ter sido elaborado no século XX, momento no qual a violência pareceu conhecer seu paroxismo.
