Abstract
The increase of social understanding about the Portuguese society has also been due to developments that sociology had in the country, whether in professional terms, whether in academics. Moreover, the expansion of Portuguese sociology also due to the social changes registered in society. To characterize these processes, configuring them as defining factors of different evolutionary contexts of Portuguese sociology, turns out to be the main objective of this text. We believe that sociology in Portugal behaved five major evolutionary stages. In the course of the text will be specified both the evolutionary stages option and the elements that embody each of the periods signalized
