Abstract
A conquista da costa sul-pernambucana exigiu várias campanhas dispendiosas que duraram de 1554 a 1571 e, em parte, visaram a vingar a morte do 19 Bispo do Brasil Dom Pedro Fernandes Sardinha e de sua numerosa comitiva ocorrida em junho de 1556. As sangrentas batalhas terminaram com a derrota definitiva dos silvícolas cactés por Duarte Coelho de Albuquerque.
