Abstract
En este ensayo el profesor Bosemberg defiende la necesidad de estudiar el Medio Oriente en Colombia. Inicialmente, se muestran las visiones estrechas que se tienen sobre la región. Después, se señala la importancia histórica del área y su relación con Occidente –que, por supuesto, también nos atañe. Esto se hace para dar unos puntazos sobre el papel del historiador. Se trata de romper con ojeadas ligeras y de hacer de la región un objeto de estudio a través del cual el estudioso, no solamente amplía su cultura histórica sino, además, se adentra en la pluralidad de procesos a veces ignorados que, en ocasiones, son semejantes a los de cualquier país del tercer mundo.
