Abstract
The Revolutionary Six-Year Period was a favourable time for supporters of the Iberian Union to try and put their projects into practice. Alicante’s press reflected both the desires of monarchists, who sought the enthronement of Fernando de Coburgo, and those of republicans, who wished instead to establish a Federal Iberian Republic. Both projects failed during the Six-Year Period, and a period of decline of Iberianism began.
