Todo acontecimiento histórico es irrepetible, único. Todo relato o descripción de un hecho histórico (el "hecho" no es el acontecimiento mismo, sino una manera de manifiestarse) no puede ser transparente, neu-tral, inmediato. Todo relato supone una "interpretación", sea ésta conciente o no, querida o no voluntariamente intentada . Toda historia de la Iglesia (como relato científico — Historie — y no como el acontecimiento mismo — Gesehen —) supone un cierto manejo de los hechos eclesiales. De la concepción (sea cotidiana o teológica) que se tenga de lá Iglesia dependerá la historia que se haga. En América Latina estamos intentando una historia de la Iglesia desde una cierta experiencia y teologia de la comunidad institucional fundada por Jesucristo.
