Abstract
Con el propósito de mejorar la calidad y producción del cultivo de tomate de cáscara, se estudiaron, durante el ciclo primavera-verano de 2005, cuatro niveles de poda (cuarto, sexto y octavo entrenudo y sin poda) en dos variedades de tomate de cáscara (CHF1 Chapingo y Tamazula SM2). Se empleó un diseño experimental de bloques al azar con cuatro repeticiones y un diseño de tratamientos factorial completo 4x2. La unidad experimental fue de 1.5 m de ancho por 4 m de largo (6 m2) con 18 plantas totales y 16 útiles para mediciones. Las variables evaluadas fueron: peso, tamaño (diámetro ecuatorial y polar) y rendimiento de fruto. Ningún nivel de poda tuvo efecto positivo en el rendimiento ni en la calidad de fruto; sin embargo, sí hubo efecto entre variedades. Con la variedad CHF1 Chapingo se obtuvo el mayor rendimiento (963.5 g por planta) y la mejor calidad de fruto (peso por fruto de 26.4 g, diámetro ecuatorial de 54.4 mm y diámetro polar de 34.1 mm).
