Abstract
O historiador Jaime Cortesão, fértil em fantasiar desco-bertas marítimas pré-colombianas e atribuí-las a nautas portuguêses, publicou no Arquivo Histórico da Marinha (1) um trabalho aparentemente bem arquitetado, visando emprestar a Diogo de Teive, madeirense, escudeiro do Infante D. Henrique e ao seu pilôto Pedro de Velasco, "a glória" de terem em agôsto de 1452 avistado o banco da Terra Nova, sem todavia tê-lo abordado.
