Desde que nascem, as crianças vivenciam certas experiências sociais que são determinadas pelo fato de serem meninos ou meninas. Que concepções de gênero, corpo e infância são apresentadas por uma boneca que quer ser a melhor amiga da criança-menina? Este artigo analisa o sucesso da boneca Barbie, os modos de educar meninas e os mecanismos publicitários que configuram sua personalidade versátil e produzem certos modos de pensar, agir e relacionar-se com o mundo.
Ever since children are born, they live certain social experiences that are determined by the fact of being boys or girls. What conceptions of gender, body and childhood are presented by a doll that wants to be the best friend of the child-girl? This article analyzes the success of the Barbie doll, the ways to educate girls and the advertising mechanisms that configure its versatile personality and produce certain ways of thinking, acting and relating with the world.
