Abstract
Esse sistema de política econômica surgiu na década de 1990 como uma nova forma de combater à inflação. Entretanto, a política de metas inflacionárias gera problemas de natureza econômica que justificam a análise desses no presente estudo. Tal análise permitirá demonstrar que a tentativa de manter a taxa de inflação limitada em patamares pré-estabelecidos pode ficar comprometida, pois os fatores determinantes da inflação geralmente não podem ser controlados pelas autoridades monetárias. Os resultados de alguns estudos empíricos apresentados neste trabalho demonstraram a presença e atuação desses problemas, como a geração de impactos negativos no crescimento real do produto e em outras variáveis econômicas de alguns países que adotaram tal sistema.
