Abstract
The article examines George as a counterpart to the Sumerian god Ninurta. Feast St. George boasts Georgy feat - creation of the world. The date of the feast – 6th of May, is commented in its relation to the astronomical arguments and Sumerian ancient texts. The main rituals of the feast are described. The most typical folk songs devoted to St. Georgy are listed in the paper appendix.
