Abstract
Mucho se ha avanzado en los últimos años en el conocimiento del patrimonio artístico granadino, también de la escultura, donde Granada, debe ocupar un lugar señero en la época Moderna. Muchos y muy destacados artistas, hicieron posible esta feliz realidad. De todos ellos, la figura de Bernabé de Gaviria, sigue siendo el gran desconocido, a pesar de ser autor de obras singulares y haber hecho incursiones en el campo de la edilicia y de la retablística. De ahí que sea muy novedoso un estudio de estos dos momentos claves de su vida, a partir de fuentes documentales.
