Este artigo pretende demonstrar a importância da contribuição de Ernst Troeltsch para a sociologia do cristianismo e ressaltar que a atualidade teórica desse pensador advém precisamente de suas divergências e não de suas afinidades eletivas em relação a seu amigo Max Weber.
This paper aims to show the importance of Ernst Troeltsch's contribution to the sociology of Christianity, arguing that the contemporary significance of Troeltsch's theories derives precisely from their divergences from those of his friend Max Weber, rather than their elective affinities.
