Abstract
O Estatuto da Igualdade Racial é uma lei sancionada em 2010, que, como tal, reflete anseios da sociedade brasileira no tocante à questão racial. Por outro lado, o fato de ter sido sancionada em pleno século XXI indica que a discussão sobre igualdade social e racial ainda precisa ser amadurecida. Os entraves que se apresentam para a discussão desta questão e, principalmente, para a implementação de ações efetivas no combate às desigualdades raciais estão relacionados a uma ideologia que vem sendo reproduzida ao longo da história do país, implicando na invisibilidade do tema, a despeito da realidade concreta de desigualdades que assolam a população negra. Neste contexto, este trabalho procura verificar o que o Estatuto da Igualdade Racial pode dizer a respeito da sociedade brasileira com relação à questão racial.
