Abstract
Este artigo analisa como o “progresso econômico” e a política de moradia popular existentes na cidade de Sidrolândia, no Estado de Mato Grosso do Sul, na Região Centro-Oeste do Brasil, afastaram as pessoas comuns da área central da cidade, sobretudo os trabalhadores que possuíam ganhos mais modestos. Esta região, por sua vez, tinha a melhor infra-estrutura dentre todos os outros bairros da urbe e contava, inclusive, com terrenos sem quaisquer edificações.
