Este artigo analisa as mentiras e verdades postas nas páginas do livro Peregrinação, de Fernão Mendes Pinto, um clássico da literatura de viagens portuguesa. A abordagem levada a cabo aponta a marca hiperbólica, satírica e irônica da narrativa mendiana, que representa a contestação das colonizações lusitanas e a denúncia das atrocidades cometidas em seu curso, o reverso mesmo do épico camoniano.
