Abstract
O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar os efeitos de diferentes formulações de substratos contendo caulim e do volume dos recipientes sobre a produção de mudas de jatobá (Hymenaea courbaril L.). O experimento foi desenvolvido no Viveiro Florestal do Centro de Ciências Agrárias da Universidade Federal da Paraíba. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi em blocos ao acaso, em esquema fatorial 3 x 9 (três volumes de recipientes e nove formulações de substratos), com nove mudas por tratamento. Aos 105 dias após a semeadura, foram avaliados a altura da parte aérea (cm), o diâmetro ao nível do solo (mm), o número de folhas e a massa seca (g) da parte aérea e da raiz. As mudas de Hymenaea courbaril apresentaram maior desenvolvimento quando cultivadas em recipientes com volume de 1.660 cm3 contendo substrato composto por 40% de terra de subsolo e 60% de caulim.

SUBSTRATE AND CONTAINER VOLUME ON JATOBÁ (Hymenaea courbaril L.) SEEDLINGS PRODUCTION
ABSTRACT
The aim of this study was to assess the effects of distinct formulations of substrates containing kaolin and container volume on production of jatobá (Hymenaea courbaril L.) seedlings. The experiment was conducted at forest nursery of Agricultural Sciences Center in Paraíba Federal University. The experimental design was structured in randomized blocks in a 3 x 9 factorial scheme (three volumes of containers and nine substrate formulations), with nine seedlings per treatment. At 105 days after sowing, were evaluated the shoot height (cm), diameter at ground level (mm), number of leaves and dry mass (g) of shoot and root. Hymenaea courbaril seedlings showed better development when grown in containers with volume of 1,660 cm3 and substrate composed by 40% of subsoil and 60% of kaolin.
