Abstract
O presente estudo visa apontar a contradição de Alberto Caeiro em relação ao conhecimento racional e objetivo, na obra O guardador de rebanhos, revelada, em muitos momentos, através da presença de antíteses e paradoxos nos poemas. Dessa forma, busca-se contribuir para ampliar os estudos sobre os heterônimos de Fernando Pessoa, principalmente no sentido de desconstruir a visão de Caeiro como exemplar perfeito do Paganismo, quando, na verdade, ele é fortemente marcado pela inteligência e pela reflexão. A fim de confirmar a tese proposta, apresenta-se a análise de poemas da referida obra, bem como se apontam os posicionamentos de diferentes estudiosos sobre o tema.
