Abstract
As iniciativas para combater o avanço das areias e os alagadiços que tomavam conta da área urbana da cidade do Rio Grande no século XIX, por meio de obras de calçamento, são analisadas neste artigo, tendo por fonte principal os relatórios da Câmara Municipal do Rio Grande no período de 1851-1876.
