Abstract
La Roncopatía Primaria es un trastorno respiratorio del sueño que se caracteriza por no presentar apneas, desaturaciones ni microdespertares. Se presenta en más del 50% de la población adulta y se traduce en una obstrucción parcial de la vía aérea superior. Durante mucho tiempo se consideró sólo como un síntoma benigno, sin embargo, constituye una entidad patológica en sí misma y determina importantes repercusiones a nivel de funciones neurocognitivas, metabólicas y cardiovasculares. La polisomnografía constituye hoy el gold estándar en su estudio, sin embargo, análisis acústicos del ronquido presentan una relevancia creciente. Su manejo incorpora medidas médicas, quirúrgicas e instrumentales, debiendo siempre adecuarse en forma personalizada a cada individuo. El estudio etiológico y de los mecanismos histopatológicos y bioquímicos que determinan las repercusiones clínicas de la roncopatía, aportará nuevas herramientas que nos permitan profundizar y optimizar tanto su estudio como su tratamiento.
