Abstract
O artigo se propõe identificar as diversas trilhas temáticas que os estudos e pesquisas sobre as classes trabalhadoras nos anos 80 percorreram até desaguar na emergência de um novo tema unificador - os modos de vida - que desloca a ênfase das condições de vida e das práticas político-institucionais da classe operária para as práticas cotidianas e representações, as tradições e trajetórias distintas dos trabalhadores e trabalhadoras, propondo uma abordagem que, na encruzilhada da Sociologia com a História Social e a Antropologia Cultural, resgata a heterogeneidade da formação e as experiências diferenciadoras das classes trabalhadoras.
