Of all the existing problems, which have to be solved by rail, the most acute is the problem of the technological deficit of wagons. At present, there is a persistent search for unused reserves at railway stations. The practice of transportation shows that during transportation tare and packaging of goods rail cars used for carrying capacity of the irrational than with the other goods. In a market economy, incentives to reduce logistics costs will become increasingly important. Therefore, it is necessary to make maximum use of all reserves and opportunities to reduce freight costs. One of these reserves is the rational use of load-carrying capacity and the capacity of covered wagons. The paper gives the calculation formulas of the scheme of packing of packaged goods in a covered wagon.
