Abstract
El presente trabajo intenta exponer un panorama de lo que ha sido la arquitectura metálica en Chile desde sus inicios hasta sus obras más recientes, mostrando las principales realizaciones y los períodos históricos en que se desarrollaron. Previo a ello, y como marco de referencia del modo en que la arquitectura metálica irrumpe y se expresa en la América española, se ensaya una reflexión sobre el modernismo.
