Abstract
Este libro es el resultado de una rigurosa investigación, que profundiza en un tema algo descuidado por la historiografía nacional, y que tiene que ver con los grandes esfuerzos para lograr el reconocimiento de Colombia, tanto por los países vecinos como por los Estados europeos centrales y algunos más periféricos. De forma paralela, la investigación de Daniel Gutiérrez aborda minuciosamente la construcción de la Gran Colombia, sus dificultades, su momento de gloria y su temprano fracaso, íntimamente ligado a la figura de Simón Bolívar, su aureola continental y a las innumerables dificultades que enfrentó para sostenerla en el tiempo.
