Abstract
A análise de crescimento de três cultivares de milho, de níveis heteróticos, portes e ciclos distintos, foi realizada visando avaliar os seguintes índices biométricos e fisiológicos: distribuição percentual de matéria seca entre as diversas partes de planta, taxa de crescimento da cultura, taxa de crescimento dos grãos, índice de área foliar e taxa de assimilação líquida. Esses índices foram determinados através da variação temporal da área foliar e da matéria seca das diversas partes da planta. Os cultivares IAC-Maya e IAC-Maya latente não apresentaram diferenças entre si quanto às características estudadas, porém diferiram do híbrido duplo precoce Cargill-601. No período imediatamente após o florescimento, os fotossintetizados produzidos em excesso à capacidade de enchimento dos grãos, foram armazenados principalmente nos colmos, sendo posteriormente reutilizados no período de maior crescimento dos grãos. Embora os cultivares IAC-Maya e IAC-Maya latente tenham apresentado maior capacidade fotossintética, foram menos eficientes que o híbrido duplo Cargill-601 na taxaa de conversão de fotossintetizados em grãos. De maneira geral, os híbridos são mais eficientes que os cultivares na conversão de fotossintetizados em grãos, em vista do nível heterótico. Os valores dos índices de colheita para os cultivares IAC (Maya e Maya latente) e para o híbrido duplo precoce Cargill-601 foram, respectivamente, 0,37 e 0,50.
Growth analysis of three maize cultivara, of distinct vegetativa cycles and plant heights, were carried out in order to estimate the following biometrical and physiological characteristics: dry matter distribution among the plant parts, crop growth rate, grain growth rate, leaf area index, and net assimilation rate. These characteristics were evaluated from the temporal variations of leaf area and dry matter accumulation among the plant parts. For all the characteristics determined, both IAC-Maya and IAC-Maya latente did not differ from each other, but were distinct from Cargill-601. Just after flowering the photosynthates produced in excess of the grain filling capacity were accumulated mainly in the stem being, however, available during the period of grain growth. Although IAC-Maya and IAC-Maya latente had higher photosynthetic capacity they were, however, less efficient than Cargill-601 in converting photosynthates to grain. The harvest indexes were 0.37 and 0.50, respectively, for IAC (Maya and Maya latente) and Cargill-601.
