Abstract
This article presents some reflections on the possibilities of exploring the interrelationships among knowledge and practice in music and other areas. To this end, it initially clarifies some terms that refer to modalities and approaches of researching by combining different fields of knowledge, such as interdisciplinarity, multidisciplinarity, transdisciplinarity, pluridisciplinarity and multi-referentiality. The following topic illustrates some possibilities of interdisciplinary inquiry in music and music education. The study is grounded on a literature review in areas such as music, music education, education, sociology, management, health sciences, philosophy, theory of knowledge and epistemology. The paper concludes pointing out to some concrete ways of achieving interdisciplinary integration in music and in music education.
